Latin Americanist Catherine Reyes-Housholder, researched gender in the 2005-2006 Chilean presidential race. She is now investigating the relationship between educational crisis, political parties and congressional powers in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. She currently works as an English professor at a university in Santiago de Chile. Dedicated to culture, women and politics south of the Rio Grande, this blog is for family, friends and fans of Latin America.
Why am I in love with Latin America? Here's just a few reasons: - the music Julieta Venegas, Orishas, Juanes, tango, salsa, merengue, chachacha ... - the politics representative democracies, delegative democracies, military dictatorships, bureaucratic authoritariasm, communism, socialism, hyper-presidentialism, women presidents, no presidents -- Latin America has (or has had) it all - the diversity -- dificil explicar eso -- from the "sophisticated" Argentines to the Mayans of Mexico, Latin American culture is just as complex and diverse as any region on Earth - the men who are not macho
